Applicants must be Indian citizens and should not be more than 45 years of age as on June 30, 2026. They must be graduates of a recognised Indian university with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in their undergraduate or post-graduate studies. Candidates whose undergraduate degree is not from a recognised Indian university are not eligible to apply. The programme to which admission is secured must be recognised as a Graduate Programme (post-graduate as per Indian standards).
Candidates who were not selected for the J N Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship in previous years, as well as those who were selected earlier but could not avail of the loan, may apply again. Applicants already pursuing post-graduate studies overseas are eligible to apply at the end of their first year or at the start of their second year, provided at least one full academic year (12 months) of study remains at the time of the scholarship award, usually in July. Those currently on a break for CPT or OPT training must have a minimum of two full semesters or three quarters remaining to complete their programme.
Students in the final year of their degree course and those awaiting results are also eligible to apply. Applications can be submitted even without an admission or offer letter for the 2026–2027 academic year; however, candidates must update the Endowment once admission is confirmed by emailing jnteapplication@tatatrusts.org and quoting the reference number mentioned on the top left of the application form. J N Tata scholars who have fully repaid their earlier loan scholarship are also eligible to apply.
Candidates going abroad for student exchange programmes, seminars, conferences, training, workshops, paper presentations, undergraduate studies, or for any post-graduate degree, diploma, or certificate through distance learning or online modes are not eligible. Those planning to pursue undergraduate or post-graduate studies in India are also not eligible. Additionally, applicants intending to study for a diploma of at least one year’s duration where the entry requirement is only higher secondary education are not eligible to apply.
