Introduction: Sri Venkateswara University Distance Education Courses was established in the year 1972 as the institute to provide correspondence courses to the students who are not able to attend regular higher education institutes. This also helps the individuals who discontinue education at an early age or are slow learners. Distance education is an attempt to diversify and proliferate academic beneficence far beyond the close confines of a classroom and to make it available to all those who aspire for higher learning. It has a special relevance in an egalitarian society, in so far as it does not have the “elitist bias” to education which is beyond the reach of many. Another advantage of such a programme is that it goes beyond the confines of University Jurisdiction.
The Institute of Correspondence Course was upgraded as the Directorate of Distance Education in 1994 as per the UGC norms.
The University was earlier known as Institute of Correspondence Courses (ICC) which was later upgraded into Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) in April 1995 as per the UGC norms. As of now, the Directorate of Distance Education is offering B.Sc. (regular), B.A. (Regular and Open University System), B. Com. (Regular and Open University Sytem), B.L.I.Sc., P.G. Diploma in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, Guidnace and Counselling, Hospital and Helaht care Management, Journalism & Mass Communicaiton, Dress Designing & Garmnet Making, apart from the Post-Graudate Ocurses (M.A., M.Sc., M.B.A and M.S.W).
