About IAS exam in India
Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is the Civil Services Examination organized by the Union Public Service Commission of India (UPSC). IAS exam is considered to be one of the toughest entrance exams in India for which thousands of aspirants appear for the examination just to be selected by one of the recruiting agency ie. Union Government, State Government, and Public Sector Unit (PSU) for various job roles.
The hosting organization UPSC will release application form on its official web portal for which link will be provided below. The main qualification for the IAS exam is to have a graduation degree in prescribed age limit bracket to be eligible for the exam.

IAS EXAM 2023 Eligibility Criteria
Nationality
Only Indian citizens who have valid Identity proof are eligible to apply for IAS exam 2023 |
Age Limit (as on 1st August, 2023)
· The age bracket of candidate should be between 21 years to 32 years. The birth date should be not before 2nd August 1987 and not after 1st August 1998.
· Relaxation in age is given for OBC, ST/SC and PwD candidates. |
Minimum Educational Qualifications
Applicant should have graduate degree in any discipline from a recognized university. |
IAS Exam 2023 Application Form
All candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria are entitled to apply online using the UPSC official website. For your reference here are few steps mentioned to follow in filling the application form.
- The IAS exam 2023 application form can be filled and submitted on the online portal of UPSC website from 2nd week of February 2023. ( https://www.upsc.gov.in/)
- Applicants have to upload necessary Photograph and documents in the online application form.
- The format for the Photograph and Documents have been prescribed so kindly uses the format according to the guidelines.
- The permitted size of the photograph should not above 3kb and below 40kb. The size of the signature should be 1kb.
- Application fee submission can be done through e-challan form, net-banking, Visa/Master Credit/ Debit Card.
- Always check the application form before submission for information fed into the form because once the information is submitted then correction is not possible.
- Always take the printout of the application form till the last process of admission is completed.
IAS EXAM 2023 Application Fee
Candidates can deposit the fee through e-chalan form, net-banking, Visa/Master Credit/ Debit Card. Or they can deposit the fee by cash in State Bank of India (SBI).
- Application fee charges: Rs 100/
- For ST/SC/Female/Physically Handicapped candidates: Fee is exempted
IAS EXAM 2023 Exam Pattern
1. Preliminary Exam
The exam pattern for IAS entrance exam for preliminary examination is divided into 2 papers of 2 hours each. Each paper carries 200 marks. Below table has the detail of the exam pattern.
- Paper-I: It is designed to check the candidate’s knowledge on current events, Indian history, Indian national movements, Indian & world geography, Indian polity, economy, social development, environmental ecology, biodiversity, etc.
- Paper-II: It is designed to check candidate’s knowledge on comprehension, interpersonal skills, communication, logical reasoning, analytical ability, decision making, problem-solving, data interpretation, English language, etc.
- The exam will be conducted in offline mode in 2 hours duration.
- Each question will be 1/3 Mark penalty for the wrong answer.

2. Main Exam
The main exam consists of a total of 9 papers. Further out 9 papers 7 are ranking papers and 2 are qualifying papers. This main exam is very crucial as the candidates who will qualify the main exam will be invited for personal interview.

3. Personal Interview
The IAS job is an administrative job which requires a lot human skills to handle situations and lead a diverse group of people. Therefore the personal interview of the candidate is to evaluate his/her ability to stand out in situations with sound mind power.
Applicants must expect questions related to intellectual skills, psychological abilities, social and worldly traits with good knowledge on current affairs.
The interview will test the knowledge as well as the confidence of the candidate. It’s good to prepare on current affairs, your personal take to handle those situations and ability to handle counter questions should also be included in the preparation for the personal interview.
IAS EXAM 2023 Admit Card
The provisional date to release the admit card is 3rd week of May 2023. To download the admit card candidates have to visit the official website of the UPSC and candidates will have to use their login credentials to download the admit card.
A direct link will be provided on the official website of the UPSC where candidates can click on the link and get the admit card.
All candidates are requested to bring the admit card in the examination venue otherwise entry will not be allowed.
IAS EXAM 2023 Result
The UPSC official will declare the result of the preliminary IAS exam 2023 first after the one month of the IAS exams. Only candidates clearing the preliminary exams will be invited to appear in the main examination of the civil services.
The provisional date for the civil service main exam will be around September 2023. From here the applicants who have qualified the main exam and made into the IAS exam 2023 cut off list will be invited for the third process which is the interview (personality test).
IAS Exam 2023 Cut Off
