NIF Translation Fellowship 2025, Applications for Round 3 of the New India Foundation’s Translation Fellowships open August 1, 2025! These fellowships aim to bring influential non-fiction works from 10 Indian languages—published from 1850 onwards—into English. By doing so, NIF seeks to nurture scholarship on Independent India and give Indian-language texts the global readership they deserve.

Eligibility

To be eligible, an applicant must:-
- be an Indian citizen or a Person of Indian Origin (PIO)
- demonstrate fluency in both English and the chosen Indian language
- have proposed a translation of a significant non-fiction work originally written in an Indian language
- show evidence of prior translation work, research, or relevant academic/professional background
Languages: Assamese, Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Tamil and Urdu.

Selection Criteria

The candidates will be selected based on the following criteria –
Applications will be invited through select advertising by the NIF in leading journals and online platforms.
The NIF Trustees shall assess the proposals and prepare a shortlist of eligible candidates.
The shortlisted candidates will be subject to a thorough interview process with a jury consisting of the NIF Trustees as well as other eminent persons from the worlds of scholarship, business and social service.
