WINGS Women INspiring Growth in STEM Scholarship Program, IIT Bombay’s Distinguished Alumnus Bharat Desai and his wife Neerja Sethi have introduced a new scholarship program at IIT Bombay called WINGS — Women INspiring Growth in STEM Scholarship Program. This initiative is designed to promote and support women’s participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by removing financial barriers that often hinder their academic growth. Through this scholarship, the couple aims to empower talented women to pursue higher education in STEM fields and contribute meaningfully to innovation, research, and technological advancement.

The WINGS — Women INspiring Growth in STEM Scholarship Program, launched in collaboration with IIT Bombay and the IIT Bombay Heritage Foundation (IITBHF), is a visionary initiative dedicated to empowering women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The program seeks to enhance access to quality education and create equal opportunities for female students in India. It is founded on the belief that a world-class education from IIT Bombay can equip young women with the knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills needed to shape the future of innovation and research. Beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year, the scholarship will cover tuition expenses for eligible female undergraduate students at IIT Bombay, excluding those already benefiting from other government tuition grants or scholarship programs. Through WINGS, the initiative aspires to nurture the next generation of women leaders in STEM and drive meaningful progress toward gender equity in education and technology.
Eligibility
(WINGS Women INspiring Growth in STEM Scholarship Program)
- Female undergraduate students enrolled at IIT Bombay.
- Students not availing any other government tuition grant or scholarship.
- The scholarship will continue for students maintaining a CPI of 6.0 or higher.
Benefits
The scholarship covers tuition fees (Rs 2 lakhs per annum) for women students meeting the above eligibility criteria.
