NGSF Internship Program 2025-26

NGSF Internship Program 2025-26, The Next Gen Scientists Foundation (registered under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882) provides funding opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students seeking hands-on research experience in the life sciences. Selected interns will undertake independent research under the guidance of a Principal Investigator or Professor of their choice at institutes across India.

For 2026, we will continue to offer remote internships in Computational Biology alongside our regular on-site positions. Please note that remote internships will be limited to no more than 20% of the final cohort.

Beginning in 2027, NGS interns will also have the option to apply for funding to support their final-year thesis projects.

Eligibility for NGSF Internship Program 2025-26

 

Applicants are eligible if they meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate an interest in pursuing a life-science–related internship for two months (minimum 56 days) or three months (minimum 84 days).
  • Be enrolled at an Indian institute as:
    (i) a 2nd-year student in a 3-year undergraduate program,
    (ii) a 2nd or 3rd-year student in a 4-year undergraduate program,
    (iii) a 1st-year student in a 2-year master’s program, or
    (iv) a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th-year student in a 5-year integrated program.
  • Have secured acceptance to work in the laboratory of a professor/Principal Investigator (PI) at an Indian institute other than their own.
  • Students already receiving financial support from their PI or from other agencies (e.g., KVPY, INSA, JNCASR, IIT, IISER) are not eligible for additional funding from this program.
  • NGSF does not fund internships that charge fees. Program support is intended only for traditional unpaid internships.

Finding a PI Mentor for NGSF Internship Program 2025-26

 

NGSF does not directly offer internship placements. Funding is provided only to students who have independently secured a position with a PI. To ensure a productive research experience, applicants should confirm that their prospective mentor:

  • has at least three years of faculty experience, and
  • has at least three peer-reviewed publications as the corresponding (last) author.

Application Process for NGSF Internship Program 2025-26

 

All applications must be submitted through the online application portal. Please read the application guidelines thoroughly before applying.

  • Application window: November 15, 2025 → March 15, 2026 (closes at 12:00 midnight).
  • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so early submission is encouraged.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a Skype interview in April.
Result Announcement for NGSF Internship Program 2025-26

Final results will be released before April 31, 2026, and selected candidates will be notified directly via email.

Financial Support for NGSF Internship Program 2025-26

NGS interns will receive a monthly stipend of INR 6,000 for on-site internships and INR 3,000 for remote internships, for a duration of up to three months, subject to fulfillment of program requirements. On-site interns will also be eligible for travel reimbursement, up to the cost of a III AC train ticket (round trip).

Internship Period

Internships may be scheduled for any two- to three-month period between May and July 2025, based on the mutual convenience of the student and the supervising PI.

Higher Studies Abroad Mentorship

Through our collaboration with the Scholarscape platform, selected interns will receive complimentary 1:1 mentorship, either individually or through the platform’s Master’s and PhD Abroad programs.

Scientific Communication Requirements

Beyond supporting research, the program emphasizes strong scientific communication. During the internship, interns are expected to:

  • Contribute one article to the NGS Blog
  • Submit a monthly progress report
  • Deliver a final presentation as part of the NGS Internship Webinar Program

Dissertation Program

Since 2022, NGSF interns have been eligible to apply for additional support for their Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis research after completing their internship. Applicants must:

  1. Have previously been selected as an NGSF intern
  2. Conduct their thesis/dissertation work outside their home institute

Selected candidates will receive a stipend of INR 6,000 per month for up to six months.
