Apply for Raman Charpak Fellowship program 2026 by Government of India, Applications are now open for the Raman–Charpak Fellowship Program 2026 by the Government of India. The prestigious fellowship, established in honour of Nobel Laureates Prof. C.V. Raman (India, 1930) and Prof. Georges Charpak (France, 1992), was launched during the State visit of the President of France to India in February 2013.
The program aims to facilitate the exchange of doctoral students between India and France, thereby strengthening cooperation in science, technology, and innovation. Jointly funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, and the French Institute in India (IFI), French Embassy in India, under the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Government of France, the fellowship is implemented by the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research (IFCPAR/CEFIPRA).
It provides an excellent opportunity for Indian and French Ph.D. students to undertake part of their research work in a university or research institute in the partner country, helping them gain valuable exposure to diverse research methodologies and cultural experiences. The program has also been extended to French Master’s students wishing to complete an internship in India as part of their academic curriculum.
Applicants must have a well-defined project proposal jointly approved by both Indian and French supervisors before applying. Interested candidates are encouraged to review the fellowship details carefully and submit their applications before the specified deadline.

Eligibility

(PhD students)
Applicants from India must be Indian citizens residing in India and have registered for a PhD in a recognized university or research institution in India. Indian PhD students in 2nd year or 3rd year can apply for the fellowship.
Applicants from France must be residing in France and have registered for a PhD/ Master’s degree in a recognized university or research institution in France
Age: Maximum 30 years as on 1st April, 2025
Students once supported by CEFIPRA, also in the framework of CEFIPRA projects, and students who have a permanent position in institutions/universities are not eligible
Pre-authorization or prior consent from his/her Institute / University to apply for a foreign fellowship programme
The host institution/university of Indian applicants must be in France and vice versa for the French applicants
(French Master students)
Applicants must be residing in France and must be registered in Masters 1 programme and must be able to plan their visit in RCF during the time of Master 2. Applicants in Master 2 programme can are also eligible to apply.
Age: Maximum 30 years as on 1st April, 2025
Students in the framework of CEFIPRA projects, and students who have a permanent position in institutions/universities are not eligible
The host institution/university must be in India

Detailed description of the Research Plan/Proposal/ Research/ Educational Proposal (maximum up to 5 pages) in the prescribed format , which notably asks for: the title and the research work plan, an explanation of the expected benefit from his/her stay in the proposed Research Institute / University in France / India etc.
A CV (maximum up to 2 pages) in the prescribed format with recent photograph including summary of achievements and research interests, list of relevant publications (maximum 5 most important ones), etc.
A letter of recommendation from the Ph.D. supervisor A letter of agreement from the proposed host supervisor in the fellowship lab (Foreign Research Institute / University); French host supervisors for Indian applications are requested to seek prior approval for the access to the lab in cases of any limitations (ZRR for instance).
PhD synopsis or short summary of PhD work with title (up to 2 pages only)
Research experience letter or publications, if any (first author or co-author); (kindly combine the first page of all the publications and enclose as a single PDF file)
No Objection Certificate from Head of the Institution. (Only for Indian Applicants)
A scan copy of VALID passport (both front and back)
