Career in Architecture: Eligibility, Scope and Job.

Introduction: Career in Architecture studies is one of the dependable careers in India as it has both professional and a creative tint to it. Apparently, we all witness architectural structures in our daily lives, from our own house to old monuments, office buildings, transport facilities, schools, colleges and hotels.

The modern day speaks of architecture in terms of well appreciated office buildings, cultural architecture like old government buildings, monuments, temples and churches. Pursuing architecture studies is a long term commitment, in India the undergraduate program which is the Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) will last up-to 5 years where you will study for almost three years which is theory and laboratory studies, and in your 4th year you have to work in a Architecture consultant firm for two years as an intern along with that all students must finish a thesis and submit a dissertation on the learning of 2 years to earn the final degree.

We would suggest that you must contemplate a at least a post graduate degree which will make your resume strong and your knowledge base at par with the industry.

Eligibility criteria for Architecture Program

  • To get admission in undergraduate degree program Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) the aspirant must have 10+2 pass certificate from a recognized board with Mathematics as one of the compulsory subject.
  • The total aggregate marks in 10+2 should be more than 60%.
  • A qualifying entrance exam NATA (National Aptitude test in Architecture). NATA is probably valid in most of the colleges and universities in India.
  • As far as the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is concerned they have Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) as entrance exam.

Aspirants should use their insight and should start preparing for entrance exams from 10+2 classes itself as it will help them in clearing the entrance exam right in time.

Career Prospects after Architecture studies

The purpose of creating a new structure or construction does not remain to mere creation but it should also be environmental friendly, provide safety from natural calamity, have a great design, and increased value of space post construction.

To achieve these objectives while planning or designing a construction project one require a professional which could oversee such projects and engage his/her skills in a meaningful way.

An educated Architect with a valid degree has all the chance in world to easily land a job in the architecture space. With the creation of projects, for the purpose of, Accommodation, hospitals, hotels, commercial spaces, government building, colleges, modern schools etc.

Salaries and scope after Architecture course

Starting salary for an architect consultant is anywhere between 3 to 4 lakh per annum over which a growth rate of 7% per year has been seen. Having said that, with increase in experience and the kind of skill set you attain will certainly increase the per annum package, if one is patient and is eager to learn the trade craft of the industry, the chances abroad are also fair with rise in construction projects in many developed and developing countries there are projects that look into years down the line.
