Introduction: Career in Media and Mass Communication is not a very new niche career; it has been taken up by many journalism enthusiasts who are interested in the field of news dissemination. Although, the face of the media has now incredibly changed, if you now compare it with the past. The domain of media is now totally been occupied by the electronic media with television and internet dominating the interface.

As far as the mass communication is concerned it is totally connected with the dissemination of the news through the print media as well as the electronic media. When we talk about any field there is always a great spectrum of work associated with it and so is the case of media and mass communication.

The work involves various areas like writing, editing, reporting, broadcasting, photographing but this does not end here as the medium increases so are the opportunities available. Further, the media could be classified into two (1) Print Journalism and (2) Electronic Journalism.

In India to pursue the career in media and mass communication one has to complete at-least an undergraduate program which is the Bachelor degree program and the minimum requirement to take up jobs at media houses after which one wishes to study further could enter themselves in Masters degree program.

Eligibility Criteria: The eligibility criterion is the basic requirement which is the XII standard with a minimum of 50% marks. You can be from the humanities, commerce or from the science stream. If you have English as one of the language in the XII standard then it would be an additional advantage for you. The duration is 3 years (6 semesters). I am sure that now days there are lots of good universities to study journalism and they are known for the program also.

As per my understanding and knowledge almost all the university providing the regular course gives a hands-on training experience to their aspirants and makes them well acquainted with journalism practices and production.

Relevant to the course the program looks into the associated studies, mass communication, research in journalism and learning about various writing styles. The teaching pedagogy is same as everywhere else and if you are lucky enough your university might invite television personalities to give you the overview of the profession with a dose of extra motivation. For sure, after the course you enter the television and film production houses, news channels, as an expert, freelance journalists, print media and prominent radio stations.
