Introduction: Guwahati University Distance Education Courses or The institute of Distance and Open learning (IDOL) which was formerly known as the Post Graduate Correspondence School (PGCS) was founded in the year May 1998 with the aim to provide quality and skill based higher education to the cross section of society who are left behind due to poverty or other reason and are not able to pursue higher education.
The Guwahati University IDOL is recognized by the university grants commission (UGC) particularly for undergraduate/graduate degree and graduate diploma program.
The IDOL has witnessed growth in many areas of enrolment of more than fifteen thousand students in a learning environment equipped with latest technologies. The university also takes pride as the first E-Learning portal of the North-East.
The university has the capacity to offer more than 100 courses in Technology, Law, Science, Arts, Management, Medicine and Health Science through its various departments. The admission is thought he merit based but for many programs the admission is solely through entrance tests.

Guwahati University Distance Education Courses Admission Process
The candidate can enroll in any of GUIDOL (Distance and Open Learning) courses using one of the following two methods:
Steps to Apply for On-the-Spot Process:
- For Admission on the spot process, visit any authorized study centre or the GUIDOL office.
- Payment of INR 50 is required to get an application form at the UBI counter at the GUIDOL annex building or from any of the GUIDOL study centers.
- Bring the original qualifying examination mark sheet or certificate, as well as two passport-size pictures and the registration payments.
How to Apply?
- Visit the official website of the Gauhati University or visit the GUIDOL office to purchase the application form through the UBI counter annexe building or from any of the GUIDOL study centre.
- Go to the “student” link and click on the “self-Enrollment” tab and fill all the required details and click “submit”.
- Take a print out of the application form.
- Now visit any of the study centers with the hard copy of the form along with the required documents for the verification.
- After the successful verification, the candidate will be issued a roll number and he/ she can deposit the admission fees.
- Now send the hard copy of the application form, duly attested copies of the related documents, attested by Gazetted Officer, along with the demand draft of the required amount, to the institute by post on or before the due date of submission.
