To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be a citizen of India
- Be pursuing higher studies in renewable energy, such as M.Sc., M.Tech., or Ph.D. in renewable energy technologies
- Meet the specific eligibility criteria set by the relevant authorities for their chosen field of study

How to Apply?
Eligible applicants can follow the steps below to complete the application process:
Step 1: Click on the ‘Apply Now’ button.
Step 2: Select ‘Register’ and enter the required details. (If already registered, log in using your Gmail, mobile number, or email ID.)
Step 3: Go to the ‘Students’ section on the left side of the dashboard.
Step 4: Click on ‘Login’ under the OTR (One-Time Registration) option, which is mandatory for applying through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
Step 5: Choose ‘New user? Register yourself’ on the dashboard.
Step 6: Carefully read the instructions, tick the checkbox, and proceed by clicking ‘Next’.
Step 7: Enter a valid mobile number, captcha code, and OTP to complete the initial registration.
Step 8: Fill in all required details and click ‘Save & Register’ to complete the One-Time Registration (OTR). (Note: This generates a temporary registration number. To finalize OTR, download the OTR mobile app and complete face authentication.)
Step 9: After successful registration, go to ‘Apply for Scholarship’ and click ‘Login’.
Step 10: Select the relevant scholarship, fill in the application form, upload the necessary documents, and submit.
Important Note:
Applicants must ensure that all details entered are accurate. Once submitted, the application cannot be edited. Submitting multiple applications may lead to disqualification.
Selection Criteria
Institutes will select candidates for the NREF fellowship in accordance with the prescribed eligibility criteria and guidelines laid down by authorities such as AICTE, CSIR, MHRD, and DST. Admission to M.Tech and Ph.D. programmes typically requires candidates to qualify in GATE or CSIR examinations, while M.Sc. fellowships are generally awarded to applicants who have cleared the NET examination in the field of renewable energy.
