Introduction: IIT JAM 2021 is one of the popular entrance test conducted by one of the IIT of India for admission into various programs which we will discuss in depth in this article. The IIT JAM 2021 is most probably will be organized by IIT Gawhati, Assam. This entrance exam is also valid for admission in various other universities.

More about the IIT JAM 2021

Approximately more than 55000 candidates are expected to appear for the entrance exam to qualify for a 2000+ seats in IITs, IISERs, NITs for M. Sc. level programs. The acronym JAM stands for Joint Admission Test for M. Sc. which is an online entrance exam to secure a seat in M. Sc. M.Sc.-Ph.D., Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., Post-Bachelor Degree Programmes, Dual Degree, and Integrated Ph.D. Degree Programmes in the popular IITs or IISCs.

This entrance exam is organized by Indian Institute of technology which rotates the responsibility every year. On behalf of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The score card of IIT JAM is also acceptable among other universities and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs).

IIT JAM 2021 Important Dates

IIT JAM 2021 Application Form

  • The IIT JAM 2021 application form can be filled and submitted on the online portal of JOAPS from 1st week of September 2020.
  • Only one application is accepted from an individual. Multiple applications are not permitted and if done shall be rejected
  • Applicants have to upload necessary Photographs, documents, PwD certificate (if applicable).
  • The format for the Photograph and Documents have been prescribed so kindly uses the format according to the guidelines.
  • Always check the application form before submission for information fed into the form because once the information is submitted then correction is not possible.
  • Always take the printout of the application form till the last process of admission is completed.

IIT JAM 2021 Application Fee

The application fee has to be submitted through online mode through net banking, debit card, credit card etc.

IIT JAM 2021 Eligibility Criteria

 

The eligibility criterion is mentioned below. Applicants have to adhere to the eligibility criteria guidelines for their application to be accepted to appear for the entrance exam.

  • Both Indian and Foreign Candidates can apply.
  • Candidates belonging to the General/OBC-NCL Category, have to get at least 55% aggregate marks in the qualifying degree, without rounding off (50% aggregate for candidates who belong to the SC/ST and PwD Category Candidates).
  • Candidates appearing in the final examination of their qualifying degree are also eligible for this entrance exam.

·         M.Sc. in IITB – Student should have passed graduation with both Mathematics and Physics for two years and at least one out of these two for three years.

 

·         For M.Sc. Biotechnology in IITB and IITR – Student should have done graduation degree in any of these (Science, Agriculture, Pharmacy, Veterinary, Engineering, and Medicine) branches.

 

·         M.Sc – Student should have a Bachelor’s degree (Geology) and any two subjects among Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biological Science Physics. Also, the candidate must have passed 12th with Math as a mandatory subject.

 

·         M.Sc. Chemistry in IITG, IITK, IITB, IITD, IITM, and IITR – Student should have done a graduate degree in chemistry and also candidate must have passed 12th with mathematics.

 

·         M.Sc or Ph.D. (Dual Degree) in IITB – Student should be a graduate in any one of these subjects Physics, Chemistry and Maths for a minimum of two years and four semesters.

 

·         Joint M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Geophysics at IITK – Student should have done graduation with any two subjects from Physics, Mathematics and Geology minimum 3 years and 6 semesters.

·         M.Sc. Physics in IITB, IITD, IITG, IITK, IITM, and IITR) or Joint M.Sc. /Ph.D. (Physics) in IITK –  Student should have done graduation with Physics for a minimum of two years/ four semesters and also must have done graduation with math for at least one year or two semesters.
·         M.Sc. Mathematics in IITB, IITD, IITK, and IITM – Student should have done graduation with Math as a subject for a minimum of two years or four semesters.

Note: There is no age limit for the entrance exam.

IIT JAM 2021 Exam Pattern

 

Following are the exam pattern and marking for the entrance exam. Students are requested to note the following pattern and prepare accordingly.

  • Mode:The exam will be structured through online mode
  • Duration of Exam:The duration of the exam will be Three hours
  • of Questions:A total of 60 questions will be asked in the examination.
  • Type of Questions:Questions will be in multiple choices (MCQ) and Numerical answer type (NAT).
  • Language:The questions will be asked in English language only.
  • Papers: Only 6 papers will be asked in the exam.
  • Total Marks:The question paper will be of 100
  • Negative Marking: Negative marking will be only for section I.

IIT JAM 2021 Preparation Tips

When it comes to entrance exam preparation, preparing well in advance gives an edge to the candidate and they feel more confident. From our side we would like to present some useful tips that could help student to prepare for entrance exam like a boss.

  • All students must prepare a study plan according to the syllabus and exam pattern. More priority should be given to feeble subjects and lesser to ones you know better.
  • Students must learn to plan time for revision for prepared subjects well in advance so that last minute panic could be avoided.
  • Invest in good books recommended by the appropriate experts for better preparation of the entrance exam.
  • Solving previous years and mock papers is an added bonus because now you know what kind of questions is asked and how to answer them within the stipulated exam time.

IIT JAM 2021 Admit Card

IT JAM 2021 Admit Card will be available via online mode through the official website. Admit card contains details like Candidate’s Name, Photograph, Signature, Registration Number, Code of Test Paper, Exam Center, etc. It is to be noted that the Admit card will not be sent by post or Email. Don’t forget to bring original & valid photo identification on the examination date. Candidates are not permitted to appear for the exam without a valid admit card.

IIT JAM 2021 Answer Key

The IIT JAM answer key will be published in last week of February 2021 by the examination authority.

The answer lets the student to check against the marks they have obtained according to themselves. If they feel there is change required in the answer key then they must challenge it with relevant proof.

Only then the final answer key will be released after the settlement of all the challenges.

IIT JAM 2021 Result

The IIT JAM Result 2021 will be announced in March 2021. Result can be checked by going to the official website and login with the necessary credentials like user name and password.

All India rank (AIR) will be published separately. Whereas, the merit list will be prepared according to the marks obtained by the candidate.

IIT JAM 2021 Merit List

The IIT JAM merit list 2021 will be prepared for third week of March 2021.  However the All India merit list will be prepared according to the availability of the seat.

The All India Merit List is prepared based on the All India ranking which shall allow students to take admission in IITs and IISc across India based on their category declared while filing the application form.

 

IIT JAM 2021 Cut Off

The counseling selection for the candidates will be dependent on the cut off marks. Therefore to be selected for the counseling the candidate should obtain the minimum cut off marks in every subject.

A separate merit list will publish by the individual IIT and IISc for the admission in their respective campuses. This merit list will again be based upon the cut off marks.

IIT JAM 2021 Counseling

IIT JAM counseling will be done after the release of the examination release. Merit list includes all the shortlisted candidates who are eligible to apply for admission. Candidates have to apply for admission by filling the application form through the website. In the application form candidates have to fill their preferred preferences, marks obtained education details, etc. Seats will be allotted to students as per the preferences filled, availability of seats and rank. After seat allotment, candidates have to visit the allotted college for admission procedure.
