Selection Process
The complete selection methodology is explained in the official CERT-In Scientist Recruitment 2026 notification. Below is a brief overview of the recruitment process. Candidates are advised to refer to the official notification for detailed guidelines.
Selection Stages
- Shortlisting Based on GATE Score
Applicants will be shortlisted using their valid GATE 2024, 2025, or 2026 score in the relevant discipline. Shortlisting will be done on a discipline-wise and category-wise merit basis, with candidates called for the next stage in a 1:5 ratio. GATE scores from all three years will be given equal consideration. - Document Verification
Before the Personal Interaction/Interview, shortlisted candidates must undergo document verification. All original certificates and supporting documents must be produced for verification. Failure to present the required documents will result in disqualification from the interview process. - Personal Interaction/Interview
Candidates who successfully complete document verification will be invited for the Personal Interaction/Interview, carrying a maximum of 50 marks. The assessment will include:
- Technical and academic knowledge
- Communication skills, presentation ability, and comprehension
- Academic performance, with 0.05 marks awarded for each percentage obtained in the essential qualifying degree
- Minimum Qualifying Marks
To qualify in the Personal Interaction/Interview, candidates must secure:
- 50% marks for the Unreserved (UR) category
- 40% marks for EWS, OBC, SC, ST, and PwBD categories
- Preparation of Final Merit List
The final merit list will be prepared by combining:
- 60% weightage to the valid GATE score
- 40% weightage to the marks obtained in the Personal Interaction/Interview
The merit list will be prepared separately for each discipline and category.
Tie-Breaking Criteria
If two or more candidates obtain the same final score, the ranking will be determined in the following order:
- Candidate with the higher GATE score.
- Candidate securing higher marks in the Technical/Academic Knowledge component of the interview.
- If the tie still persists, the older candidate will be placed higher in the merit list.
