TWAS-CSIR Postgraduate Fellowship Programme 2026, The TWAS-CSIR Postgraduate Fellowship Programme is a collaborative initiative offered by The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The programme is designed to support talented scholars from developing countries who wish to undertake PhD-level research in advanced fields of science and technology at CSIR laboratories and research institutes across India.

Selected fellows will receive a monthly stipend along with several additional academic and research-related benefits during the fellowship period.

The programme offers two fellowship categories:

Sandwich Fellowship: Intended for candidates who are already enrolled in a PhD programme in their home country. The fellowship duration ranges from a minimum of 6 months to a maximum of 3 years.
Full-Time Fellowship: Designed for applicants who are not yet registered for a PhD programme. The fellowship can be awarded for a maximum duration of 4 years.

Applicants are permitted to apply for only one programme each calendar year within the TWAS and OWSD fellowship portfolio.

Eligibility Criteria for TWAS-CSIR Postgraduate Fellowship Programme 2026

To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must meet the following conditions:

Applicants must be nationals of a developing country other than India.
Candidates should not exceed 35 years of age as of 31 December of the application year.
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Science or Technology.
Candidates should be regularly employed in their home country and actively engaged in a research assignment there.
Applicants must not hold temporary or permanent residency status in India or any developed country.
Candidates should obtain admission or acceptance from a Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) laboratory or institution and provide an official acceptance letter from the host institution.

Benefits for TWAS-CSIR Postgraduate Fellowship Programme 2026

Selected fellows will receive the following support and benefits:

A monthly stipend to cover living expenses, meals, and health insurance costs
(The stipend is non-convertible into foreign currency.)
Subsidised accommodation at the host CSIR institution

Applicants must submit the following documents during the application process:

Valid passport
Academic transcripts and certificates
Official acceptance letter from a CSIR host institution
“Registration and No Objection Certificate” signed by the Vice-Chancellor or Registrar of the home university (mandatory for Sandwich Fellowship applicants)
Proof of English language proficiency (if the applicant’s previous education was not conducted in English)
Evidence of current employment and active research assignment in the home country
Proof confirming the intention to return to the home country after completion of the fellowship

Step 3: After logging in, scroll down and click on the ‘APPLY NOW’ button.
Step 4: Select the ‘Create An Account’ option.
Step 5: Enter all the required details and click on the ‘Create Account’ button to complete account creation.
Step 6: Log in using your credentials and continue with the application submission process.

Selection Criteria

Candidates will be shortlisted based on the prescribed eligibility requirements and fulfilment of the programme criteria.

Terms and Conditions

Applicants are required to submit an acceptance letter from a Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) institution either at the time of application or before the final deadline. Applications submitted without preliminary acceptance will not be considered for selection.
Applications for the TWAS-CSIR Postgraduate Fellowship Programme must be submitted exclusively through the official online portal of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).
